What Older Adults Should Know About Processed Meat and Colon Cancer
Posted on November 5, 2026 - New research highlights a troubling gap in public awareness: Many Americans still don’t know that processed meats can increase the risk of colorectal cancer. According to a recent poll conducted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Morning Consult, nearly half of U.S. adults are unaware of the connection between processed meat consumption and colorectal cancer risk. The findings come at an important time. Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer deaths among adults under 50, and cases continue to affect older adults at high rates as well.
